Portrait Session : Emily

If you’re lucky in life, you’ll end up with a friend or two that you can not see for long gaps of time, and somehow pick up all the threads exactly where you both left them and carry on. Where texts are sporadic and sometimes weirdly specific (no words, just memes), phone calls are made when the stars aline and the gods smile (so, twice a year), updates are sent at odd hours in all caps, and when you’re finally back in the same room, the conversation just flows. Or it doesn’t. And that’s okay, because all of the groundwork for companionable silence was laid years ago. Emily is one of those friends for me. After four years spent halfway across the country from each other, I flew to St. Louis to surprise her for her birthday. The surprise was a smashing success - the screams were ear-piercing - and the following days were filled with much chocolate, galavanting, visiting, and fresh experiences. On our full day of touring St. Louis, I got to shoot portraits of this fiery woman out on the town.
