Harsh Light Portraits

Every now and again, I schedule a practice session as a way to give myself space to experiment and grow, to learn a new skill or sharpen an old one. Harsh light has gone from a sworn enemy to a useable asset, but I still needed some work to get truly comfortable working with it. Enter my friend Caroline, noon light, a downtown Raleigh parking deck, and five flights of suspicious-smelling stairs (I don’t even want to think what has happened there), and a lunch of Jimmy John’s and rapid-fire catching up.
